Edith (“Edie”) Murphree

Vice President for Finance

Ms. Edith (“Edie”) Murphree, Vice President for Finance, is responsible for managing the following areas of the University: Administrative Budget and Planning, Cash Management, Controller, Disbursements, Grants & Contracts, and Student Financial Services.

The mission of the Finance Division is to make Emory University fiscally fit by fostering integrity and excelling in competence and teamwork.

To support this mission, the Finance Division embraces core values of Quality, Respect, Growth, and Courage. Our goal is to provide meaningful information, achieve customer satisfaction, encourage ideas and opinions, build community relationships, and to promote continuous innovation and improvement. Our vision is to provide quality service through people who are passionately committed to the success of Emory University.

Her organization includes the Assistant Vice President of Administrative Budget and Planning, the Assistant Vice President for Finance and Bursar, the Director of Fiscal Planning and Management, the Associate Vice President for Finance and Research (Grants and Contracts), and the Associate Vice President and Controller.

As part of her many duties, Ms. Murphree represents the Finance Division at the Finance Committee and Audit Committee Trustee meetings of the Board, as well as the Ways and Means Committee of the University.

She also serves on and/or chairs numerous search, standing, and project-related committees at the University. She currently serves on the following committees: PeopleSoft Human Resource System Governance Committee, Emory University Strategic Planning Support Committee, Cost Allocation Task Force (Chairperson), Athletic and Recreation Policy Committee, Emory Pension Board, Network Advisory Group, Faculty Staff Assistance Program Advisory Committee, The Clifton School Board of Directors, and the Emory Federal Credit Union Board of Directors.

Recently, the Office of the Vice President for Finance initiated a “Business Officers’ Forum” meeting to promote communication among the major business units of Emory University. It meets bimonthly and brings together over fifty business officers from the Emory community. This forum facilitates discussions regarding financial issues, operations, and other important information. Since the meetings are participatory and relevant, members are encouraged to use this as an avenue for the exchange of information and ideas.
